“BASQUIAT KING 1960”

BASQUIAT KING 1960” was created as part of a trilogy for the centralized theme for the groundbreaking exhibition, “42nd Times Square Show Remixed - 80’s Revisited” (NYC, 2014). Which was a remake of the original “Times Square Show” (NYC, 1980) that exhibited the works of art legends Jean-Michel Basquiat, Fab Five Freddy, Keith Haring, among others. Interesting note is that this exhibition’s grand opening featured performers (“sound artists”) performing customized performances tailored to the visual artists’ works. I was honored to have Basquiat’s blood nephew, Response Basquiat performed to this piece (“BASQUIAT KING 1960”) in honor to his famous uncle. In a twist of events, it was Basquiat’s cousin whom I met earlier that year who discovered my artistry, supported my craftsmanship and got her cousin, Response to perform in the exhibition. In doing so, I had to convince Basquiat’s estate, their manager and Response Basquiat himself to bring this vision into fruition. This is the true-to-life story behind the art.
