“BASQUIAT KING 1960”

“BASQUIAT KING 1960” was created as part of a trilogy for the centralized theme for the groundbreaking exhibition, “42nd Times Square Show Remixed - 80’s Revisited” (NYC, 2014). Which was a remake of the original “Times Square Show” (NYC, 1980) that exhibited the works of art legends Jean-Michel Basquiat, Fab Five Freddy, Keith Haring, among others. Interesting note is that this exhibition’s grand opening featured performers (“sound artists”) performing customized performances tailored to the visual artists’ works. I was honored to have Basquiat’s blood nephew, Response Basquiat performed to this piece (“BASQUIAT KING 1960”) in honor to his famous uncle. In a twist of events, it was Basquiat’s cousin whom I met earlier that year who discovered my artistry, supported my craftsmanship and got her cousin, Response to perform in the exhibition. In doing so, I had to convince Basquiat’s estate, their manager and Response Basquiat himself to bring this vision into fruition. This is the true-to-life story behind the art.

Who is the famous JAMEL SHABAZZ SUPER MODEL you’ve seen in coffee-table books and exhibitions nationwide and abroad? As Jay-Z once rhymed, “Please allow me to re-introduce myself…my name is LaRonzMurray straight from the BK-NY”. And here’s my True Brooklyn Story…

Welcome to the blog that gives you a ground zero perspective of what it’s like being a JAMEL SHABAZZ SUPERMODEL capturing history in the excitement of New York City streets. I met influential photographer, Jamel Shabazz in the heart of Manhattan on the corner of 34th & 7th. It was late summer and it was during a time period I was constantly being stop by tourists asking to take my picture. I guess they were amazed by my locs and how they were styled. Or it could've been the charismatic “star quality” that resonated from my soul outwards. Personally, I always knew I was a born star. I also know presence and swagger are “key elements” when projecting "star quality". It is that special charismatic quality that draws people to you. I hypothesized this was the "thing" which captivated people's attention as they boldly asked to take my picture over and over again.

In fact, over 35 countries and cities requested my picture that particular summer. I was both humbled and amazed at the number of requests, stares and pouring compliments concerning my Brooklyn Hair Swagger. So, it was no surprise when Jamel Shabazz walked up to me and requested a photograph. The major difference between Shabazz and all the others was the fact he was a professional street photographer. He also promised to get me into magazines. We exchange numbers and soon we started doing photo shoots in and around lower Manhattan. Quickly, I became his primary muse and an Original Street SuperModel. As we built our foundation, I progressed into Shabazz’s “point man” recruiting female models as we traveled around Manhattan doing progressive photo shoots. We continued on to develop a successful photographer /model chemistry that would serve us well in our aspirations to reached new heights. Seemingly, almost every weekend we were shooting these captivating images and soon, just like he said, I ended up in magazines.

The first magazine we did was an international magazine called, JALOUSE. This was a very exciting shoot, because we were provided with a van and team of stylists dressing us for the shoot. It was a big departure from our weekend guerilla styled photo sessions where we changed in public bathrooms. I was one of many models recruited for the magazine photo session, courtesy of Shabazz and his associates. The early parts of the shoot went well as we posed for group shots featuring future Sports Illustrated and Victoria Secret’s Supermodel, Noemie Lenoir. As we progressed further along, I asked Shabazz to let me know when to change into my custom red velour suite I secretly brought along. Being the master strategist and chess player he is, Shabazz waited for the right moment to have me put on that infamous red out fit. I remember going back to the van and showing the stylist the buttah threads accentuated by my red velour shoes. The stylist was ecstatic and quickly added a super fly playa playa “gold medallion” to coolly fit around my neck for added visual effect. I grabbed my shades and headed back to Shabazz for more shooting.

His genius took flight as he quickly paired me up with another female model wearing matching red and continued shooting. I was feeling extremely good falling into my element of producing “fly poses” with an equally fly female on my side. Yeah, this was the beginning of show time like we were at the Apollo. Moments later, budding French Super Model Noemie Lenoir arrived in our cipher with a sexy reddish colored outfit styled to match my velour fly ness. Shabazz and I exchanged a quick glance confirming it was finally show time for real. Within a blink of an eye, the whole styling team was watching us as Lenoir and I started posing against the urban steel gated backdrop. Suddenly, we became the stars of the photo shoot as everyone watched us posed street style captured by the lens of Shabazz. Remarkably, those photos ended being a featured full page spread.

After the Jalouse experience, I went on to appear in a number of notable magazines, coffee-table books, ad campaigns, Fashion Week, the New York Times, Amsterdam News, and city-wide exhibitions. I was always immersed by Shabazz’s statement of “one day, it’ll all make sense”, because years later various photos from those shoots ended up in the most prestigious coffee-table books in the art world. As well as, touring exhibitions featuring my imagery captured in complete “fly ness” by the photographic lens of the great Jamel Shabazz. “SOUL AMAZING/BEAUTIFUL WOMAN, I AM”

Welcome to the debut blog introducing the customized poetical stylings interpreting the visual artistry of LaRonz Murray. Now before I was a visual artist, I was a “Custom WORDartist” crafting tailor-made poetry (officially and unofficially) to the nation’s top African-American artists of our times. This included such legendary mainstay artists as Kevin “WAK” Williams, Frank Morrison, Kolonge, Andrew Nichols, Sterling Brown, Lauri Cooper, and many others as a leading art dealer. Combining this skill along with my performance/acting chops it has given me the gift of interpreting the raw emotional soul of the artists work through the medium of poetry. They say, “A picture is worth a thousand words” and it became my mission to gather a bunch of those words and utilize them in the form of poetry. I spent well over 10 years honing and perfecting my craft until I started hearing words words pouring out of an artist’s painting. However, the most rewarding aspect of this poetical adventure was the pure delight of customers who greatly supported me through the years with much love and consistent purchases. Here’s a piece of wisdom for any writers/poets looking to write instant classics. All you have to do is write to a “classic painting” and it should result into a “heavy piece of literature” if it’s done correctly.

So, here is my own interpretation to this artistic piece that is dedicated to all the superwomen glowing on Mother Earth showing their SOUL AMAZING-ness. I salute our Queens for being Mother Earth birthing a nation full of Kings and Queens, Prince and Princes. The SOUL of HER inner-strength is more than amazing as SHE looks into the “woman in the mirror” accepting ALL her perfect imperfections as the BEAUTIFUL WOMAN she is..

“SOUL AMAZING / BEAUTIFUL WOMAN, I AM”

It’s the “GOD IN ME” that makes me BEAUTIFUL inside and out / My “POWER OF WOMAN” screams and shouts… / I AM BEAUTIFUL, I AM PROUD cause my inner-woman speaks it out load. / I AM “EVERYWOMAN” living in my skin of “perfect imperfections” thanking GOD for my many blessings. / Thus, making it clear to every child, woman, or man that I AM CHOSEN to be the SOUL AMAZING and “BEAUTIFUL WOMAN, I AM”!

SOULMATES, celebrating the HEART & SOUL of TRUE LOVE…

Welcome into the heart and soul of ROMANTIC LOVE, where we celebrate the true meaning of real emotional love. As it’s been said in the good book, “love is what love does”. Love suffers long and is kind;

love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up. (Love) bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things (1 CORINTHIANS 13:4, 7). The gorgeous feeling of love is one of

the most beautiful human emotions known to mankind. Even more so, the passionate feeling of “SOUL II SOUL LOVING” is absolutely wonderful, because this is when a person’s soul is so in love with the

other that they begin harmonizing in the melodic sensations of being “SOUL N’ LOVE”. And this in itself is one of the most joyous feelings in the world for any man and woman to experience. Living in

this present time, it is rare for two adults to come together without the “emotional baggage” of their previous relationships, to be able to bask in the spiritual bonding AS ONE.

However, this heart-wrenching scenario can be very scary. Yet, rewardingly, this unchained freedom of letting your heart go in order to feel the uncompromising passion of TRUE LOVE can create that “MADE FOR EACH OTHER” wondrous feeling. Oh, that euphoric feeling is one of the most powerful, universal words known to humankind. The following poetical expression of “soulful love” shows the total devotion of a man giving his heart and soul to the woman of his dreams, in the proclamation of becoming everlasting mates. Here is a KING placing his woman high above on a queen’s throne before resting down one knee only to offer her his world of unconditional love. This is the true-to-life story of “SOULMATES”…

Here I am, looking into the eyes of a GOLDEN TREASURE taking you into the GARDEN OF PLEASURE, putting you on the HIGHEST

PEDESTAL making you the QUEEN to my KING. Feeling a TITANTIC LOVE greater then ROMEO & JULIET making your SOUL flame with FIRE & DESIRE lifting us to the next plateau. As we

continue to grow prospering from the TREE of EVER-LASTING LOVE. Living in LOVE PARADISE acknowledging the ”QUEEN OF MY LIFE” by resting down on one knee setting our hearts free to feel the

real emotion of our devotion. As we make that soulful spiritual connection of affection. Thus, my love, here I am opening my “SHINNING HAND OF LIGHT” glowing so bright for us to do what’s right by

becoming SOULMATES, last dates. My Beloved, you are my QUEEN TO BEHOLD, and now listen very carefully to these words of my soul… Baby, give yourself to me as I give myself to you and we’ll see all

“SOULMATES - GOODNIGHT”

Existing within the uncertainty of this imperfect world, where we are surrounded by

everyday challenges of living in a constant changing society. It is truly a blessing to be

with THE ONE you love. A person whom you can have a “soul-to-soul” connection with

in the bonding of an insatiable, everlasting SOULMATE. It is absolutely wonderful to

have a special person that GOD has “custom created” just for you, someone you can

treasure and enjoy in the most romantic, monogamous relationship. Yet, however,

sometimes as flawed human beings we take for granted some of the simplest things in life

– like the expectancy of seeing your mate every night at home. When, in fact, the only

thing promised in our lifetime is the reality of death, so for those who are fortunate to

have that “custom mate” - understand it is a gift from GOD to be able to hold, kiss and

caress your love as you fall asleep synchronized in the “comfort of love”. For it is such a

“beautiful thing” for a couple to be able to make it through the “trials of the day” and to

simply say, “GOODNIGHT”.

SCRUMPTIOUS…looking juicy LUSCIOUS LIPS
So delicious looking sending me on a fantasy trip
Seductive…thick…tantalizing…cherry lips
Fantasizing of spreading WHIP CREAM on them with a strawberry at the tip

These oh so seductive words of ecstasy smoothly flows off the tongue of THE POET, as
he speaks about the sexy-ness of her “LUSCIOUS LIPS” that’s positioned directly in
front of his. Slowly and surely THE POET moves in closer to become face-to-face,
penetrating her romantic barrier with the “sexual gaze” of his penetrating eyes while
communicating to her EROTIC BEAST. Peeking into the “soul of her window”, he can
see the passionate being of her “sexual lioness” yearning to explode out the CAGE OF
RESTRAINT, panting and breathing like a BULL kicking its back leg aiming at the “red
target” held by the matador. And that “red target” is THE POET who is now breathing so
close to the “gorgeous-ness of her beauty-ness”, that he can taste the sweetness of her
breath. Staring into the face of sexual tension, he begins “licking his lips” like LL COOL
J in growing anticipation of TASTING HER with “controlled” animalistic desire.
As THE POET continues to lyrically express his inner-most desire that’s burning deeply
inside him…

Sensuous LUSCIOUS LIPS with a hypnotic effect
Falling into a trance waiting for what comes next
Concentrating on watching you move your LIPS in slow motion
Studying the formation of your lips with a strong devotion
Watching you open and close your mouth to a sensual groove
Causing my palms to sweat putting me in a romantic mood
Fighting this urge to grab you and softly KISS your LIPS
Fighting this urgent feeling as my mind starts to do back flips

The magnitude of increased “sexual tension” is beginning to bubble to the extreme like
“erupting lava” bursting to explode from a volcano, causing her soft “velour cushion” to
begin marinating in the CREAMINESS of her developing “wet sea”, also known as “A
WOMAN’S SOFTNESS”. As THE POET steadily increases the sexuality of these
orgasmic words of seduction being spoken DIRECTLY TO HER…

Soft LUSCIOUS LIPS that are, indeed, very SEXY
Kissing them with a burning passion, only in my fantasy
Sexual LUSCIOUS LIPS that keeps my undivided attention
Watching YOU, seductively, move your lips…keeping me in total suspension

Emotionally chained in the imprisonment of this passionate moment, she’s becoming
even more seduced by the strong sexuality of THE POET’S oh so vivid words as he
continues to “visually perform” these stimulating lyrics…

Possessing LIPS that should be TASTED repeatedly!
Burning to take those LIPS and PLEASE them in a World of Ecstasy
Yearning to caress them like a lost buried treasure
Craving to work WORKER %$&$# to reach the highest level of pleasure
Observing you lick your LIPS making them soft & moist
Your LUSCIOUS LIPS are my number one choice

Searching even deeper into the sexuality of her beautiful eyes, he can feel the trembles of
her EROTIC BEAST tumbling inside the CAGE OF RESTRAINT trying to escape. As
her “sexual heartbeat” begins racing, beating faster to the harmonious rhythm of her
bubbling sensuality, causing her blood to increasingly flow in RED HOT PASSION.
Now she’s emotionally over-heating as if THE POET’S “manly-ness” is
closerTHANthis, seemingly positioned within a mere INCH from her soft-fining
“woman-ness” ready to give her a full-throttle of ENORMOUS PLEASURE. Thus, a
vibrating burst of “monumental tension” is being held under suspension ready to be
delivered to its fullest extension. As her mind explodes completely in a “mental orgasm”
listening to the finale of THE POET’S thrilling, soul fulfilling wordgazms…

LUSCIOUS LIPS so JUICY causing a HARD attack
Dreaming of tasting your LIPS…wanting to hear them smack
Hidden scrumptious lips becoming moist in the mind
Satisfying these lips is where Worker %$#&# would spend most of his time
Possessing LIPS that are made for TASTING every…Single…Night!
Sensual LUSCIOUS LIPS that creates a lustful…Sexual…Appetite!!!

Like a sexy “r-rated” film switching subconsciously from one sensual scene to another –
the question is did THE POET effortlessly slide DOWN from kissing her “LUSCIOUS
LIPS” to tasting…? Or was this whole sensual episode
implied with no physical activity at all? Or was it just a “mental orgasm” executed in the
art of seduction? Only THE POET knows as we come to the close of this special episode
